The effectiveness of RH static eliminator (RH Device V1.0) versus air ionizer on typical PCBs was disclosed and highlighted in the technical papers presented at Singapore ESDA Symposium in 2012 and at the Germany ESD Symposium in 2014.
The readings of the new version of the RH static eliminator (RH Device V2.0) presented at Germany ESD Symposium is highlighted below for your attention:-
Ionizer vs. RH Device
The results shown that the electrical resistances of the PCB and its mounted components exhibit better readings over the air ionizer at an air stream flow of 80% RH.
The subsequent technical papers presented at Korea ESD Symposium 2015 provides more insights highlighting the surprising big difference in the in-situ (instant) tribo-charging voltage between a RH static eliminator and an air ionizer.
The readings of the RH static eliminator versus the air ionizer presented at the Korea ESD Symposium 2015 are tabulated below for your attention :-Table 1: Tribo-charging CDM Voltage Comparison between the RH Static Eliminator and the Air Ioniser at different Relative Humidity (RH)
Fig 2: Test Set-Up of the 1-Stroke Rubbing Test
Test data obtained clearly shown a startling difference in the magnitude
of the tribo-charging voltages. The air ioniser registered very much higher
voltages from 300% to 1000% higher compared to that of a RH static
eliminator. The test result is useful,
valuable and extremely important for the ESD risk assessment because CDM damage
currently poses the biggest threat to the ESD-sensitive devices manufacturers
throughout the industry all over the world!
